Eligibility

Who is eligible for the Veterans Upward Bound program?

VUB serves veterans who have the following:

  • Served on active duty as a member of the Armed Forces of the United States for a period of more than 180 days and was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable or

    • Served on active duty as a member of the Armed Forces of the United States and was discharged or released because of a service connected disability or

    • Was a member of a reserve component of the Armed Forces of the United States and was called to active duty for a period of more than 30 days or

    • Was a member of a reserve component of the Armed Forces of the United States who served on active duty in support of a contingency operation (as that term is defined in section 101(a)(13) of title 10, United States Code) on or after September 11, 2001.

  • Meet the low-income eligibility criteria as established by the US Government and/or be a first-generation college graduate (neither parent has a college bachelor's degree, four-year degree).

  • Cannot currently have a four-year degree.

Federal TRIO Programs Low-Income Levels*

The term "low-income individual" means an individual whose family's taxable income for the preceding year did not exceed 150 percent of the poverty level amount. The figures shown under family income represent amounts equal to 150 percent of the family income levels established by the Census Bureau for determining poverty status. The poverty guidelines were published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
