What is Veterans Upward Bound?
TRiO Veterans Upward Bound
TRiO Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) is a federally-funded program aimed at motivating and supporting military veterans in their pursuit of higher education. As one of only sixty-five programs of its kind in the country, our focus is on assisting participants from military veteran backgrounds in Arizona. Currently, only two VUB programs are operating in the state.
We cater to military veterans, national guard members, and reservists residing in Pima County and the surrounding areas. All our services are provided completely free of charge to eligible military veteran participants.
It's important to note that TRiO Veterans Upward Bound is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, specifically the Office of Postsecondary Education. Through this funding, we can offer a variety of resources and support to help veterans succeed in their post-secondary education journeys.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE VETERANS UPWARD BOUND PROGRAM?
Veterans: Applicants must be veterans who have served in the military for a minimum of 181 days on active duty and have received a discharge under conditions other than dishonorable; or Guard or Reserve that served for 30 days on active orders. This ensures that the program is exclusively available to eligible veterans.
Low-Income or Potential First-Generation College Graduates: Candidates must meet the criteria for low-income status, as determined by federal guidelines, to demonstrate financial need. Additionally, individuals who are potential first-generation college graduates are also eligible. First-generation college graduates are those whose parents or legal guardians have not obtained a bachelor's degree.
Academic Need: Lastly, applicants must demonstrate academic need. This requirement ensures that the program targets veterans who would benefit from educational support, such as academic tutoring, college preparation, and other services provided by Veterans Upward Bound.
By meeting these various criteria, veterans can access and benefit from the resources, assistance, and opportunities offered by the Veterans Upward Bound Program.
